Celebrating Collaboration: The Heart of Whispers of Dùthchas
“Working alongside the participants at Loop Foundation to bring the Whispers of Dùthchas collection to life was such a rewarding experience for me, especially after having spent the past three years helping to build this amazing social enterprise. As a pioneer in transforming textiles and empowering communities, Loop’s mission to provide circular solutions for redundant fabrics while creating meaningful work opportunities for marginalised individuals aligned perfectly with the ethos of Melaleuca Rise. This collection brought Melaleuca Rise and Loop together. We were not just crafting garments but we were weaving stories of hope, resilience, and empowerment into every stitch.
The participants, who had become dear friends—including refugees, new migrants, and survivors of domestic and family abuse—brought their unique talents and experiences to this project. They helped me to transform discarded textiles and redundant uniforms along with beautifully digitally printed natural fibres, and hand screen-printed fabrics into heirloom-quality garments that tell stories of strength and renewal. Witnessing their pride and joy throughout the creative process was utterly inspiring and filled my heart with such renewed sense of purpose.
Taking the participants to see the runway show at Eco Fashion Week Australia was a moment I’ll never forget. Watching their faces light up as their collaborative efforts graced the stage at the Midland Junction Arts Centre was a testament to the power of creativity and collaboration to foster meaningful impact for everyone involved.
This experience reaffirmed my belief that fashion can be a force for good—a platform for connection, creativity, and change. My heartfelt thanks go out to the participants and Loop Foundation for joining me on this journey toward a brighter, more connected, and caring future.” - Leuca Jane Ziemons
